These species called as Sabal palmetto, also called as Cabbage palm or Carolina palmetto, is around 45 feet tall, but also can grow more taller than this. The lifespan of the Sabal Palms is more in comparison to other species. And it is because they do not have traditional growth rings. It is believed that this species can live for more than 200-300 years.
These species are a medium sized palm tree. It possessess rough trunk which is straight, but can also grow in a bent shape. These palms are fan shaped and can be up to or more than five feet in tall. When the fronds die, the boots i.e. the bases of the fronds form a spiked and criss cross pattern on the trunk itself. The appearance of the palms changes as it grows and becomes aged. Older Palms loose the boots and thus they have a smooth and grey bark.
